This new and evolving use of Skype promises new opportunities for teacher interaction and training as well as promising captivating ways for students to communicate with others, worldwide.

Even before the movie ‘The Social Network’ became a 2011 Oscar contender, Mark Zuckerberg’s brainchild Facebook had already gained 248 million users.  And that was in 2010 alone! We all know more people are adopting social media, and apparently at some unbelievable rates.  According to SocialBaker.com, a Web site focused on Facebook statistics, trends and news, a mere 337 million people were registered users of Facebook at the onset of the year 2010.

  Over 18,000 attendees made the 25th annual gathering of South by Southwest (SXSW), which wrapped up in Austin in mid-March, the largest interactive event in the festival’s history. Certainly, with hundreds of bands vying for stage time, countless films begging attention and interactive communication in various forms engrossing the masses, it’s no surprise a few trends emerged.

Location-based Applications: Good or Ugly Social Media

Critics wonder whether we have created a smarter criminal or just made it easier for criminals to do their job. Sites like pleaserobme.com previously supported the idea that geo-location tools encourage people to share too much information online leading to more crime. While there are definitely some good reasons to use geo-location tools, it’s worth exploring the ugly side of improper use and exposure.
